History

Judo was developed in Japan in the late 19th century by Jigoro Kano. He combined techniques from different jiujutsu schools and emphasized safety, technique and educational values like respect and discipline.

Over time, Judo became an international sport with clear rules and competitions. Judo also influenced the development of several modern martial arts.
